Department of Mathematics University of Kashmir Srinagar in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Science Technology and Innovation Council has organized2-Day MathFest-2025 and National Day of Mathematics-2025 during December 22-23,2025.



2-Day MathFest-2025 and National Day of Mathematics Celebrated at the University of Kashmir

The Department of Mathematics, University of Kashmir, in collaboration with JKSTIC, Government of India, successfully organized a 2-Day MathFest-2025 on December 22–23, 2025 to commemorate the National Day of Mathematics-2025. The event, held at the University of Kashmir Main Campus, witnessed enthusiastic participation from academicians, researchers, alumni, and school students.

The inaugural session took place on December 22, 2025 at the Biotechnology Auditorium. Prof. M. A. Khanday, Head of the Department of Mathematics and Convener, delivered the welcome address and outlined the objectives of MathFest, highlighting it as an annual Departmental initiative aimed at promoting mathematics education, outreach, and awareness, particularly among school students.

The program was organized into four thematic sessions:
(i) Celebration of the National Day of Mathematics on the 138th birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan,
(ii) Alumni Meet-2025,
(iii) School Outreach Programme, and
(iv) Paper Presentations.

Prof. Khanday also delivered a special lecture on the life and contributions of S. Ramanujan. The Chief Guest, Prof. Manzoor A. Malik, Dean, School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, highlighted Ramanujan’s contributions in his presidential address and underscored the importance of conducting these programs. Prof. M. H. Gulzar, Prof. N. A. Rather, and other faculty members shared remarks during the inaugural session. The vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. M. A. Mir, Co-Convener.

Invited lectures were delivered by Prof. P. G. Siddheshwar (Christ University, Bengaluru) on Ramanujan and Raman: Our Role Models, Prof. Subuhi Khan (Aligarh Muslim University) on Discovering Mathematics Around Us, and Prof. Renu Jain, Former Vice-Chancellor, DAVV Indore, on Ramanujan’s Mock Theta Functions. The first day also featured an Alumni Meet, including a departmental documentary, student presentations, alumni interactions, and felicitation of distinguished alumni.

A special interactive session for school students was organized with talks on creative mathematical thinking and the role of mathematics in daily life, followed by medal distribution. More than 150 students from Classes VIII to XII participated. Prof. Fouzia S. Qazi spoke on 4-Dimensional systems, Prof. M. A. Mir on the division algorithm and basic inequalities, and Prof. M. A. Khanday on mathematical pedagogy and competitive examinations, particularly mathematics Olympiads.

During the paper presentation session, research scholars from various institutions presented their research, which was attended by all faculty members of the Department. The event concluded with a valedictory session, marking a successful celebration that fostered academic exchange, strengthened alumni ties, and inspired young minds towards mathematics. The proceedings were conducted by Dr. M. Saleem Lone and Ms. Sumaira Anjum.
